In some paintball Scenario games over the years they've used a Role or Special Mission assignment to simulate a "real" sniper's effect - allowing a player to "call" a hit on for example the enemy General or other key, targeted figure. Using a Ref and radio the "sniper" locates and identifies the target, i.e. "the green shirt, white mask, with the red marker next to Flag 6", from a distance of maybe 200-300 yards, well beyond any possible PB shot, well beyond the normal security perimeter or engagement range.

I have played a few scenarios that allowed 1 "radio kill" per event. It's a good idea but it takes away from the marksmanship side and really depending on were you are on the course/field it takes away from the field craft. Well, at least in 1 aspect as you are not accessing the opposing force' command area by means stealth and practiced discipline. Of course that is a very hard task to accomplish and depending on the game format/time limits/producers rules. I myself have never actually played as a sniper however I my wife does regularly and I usually spot/cover her, I do everything but 'take the shot' as it were.

I'm thinking for the next big game I produce at Dreadnought Adventures we'll have a Sniper Mission that works like this - here's a tube of special paint, the Sniper has 45 minutes to score 3 identifiable hits on the target plate on the flag pole at the enemy CP, since this is a Sniper Mission not a Spy Mission, the shooter has to be wearing his correct arm-band tape and respect the 30 foot rule, shots from within the 30 foot radius of the CP are disallowed. Now if a player completes this Mission, and survives, I think I'd later allow as you say a "radio kill" later as a reward.
